Concrete program and outline of the seminar:
Transboundary Fashion Seminar 5.1: Fashion Designers’ Practices and Theories
Organized by: JSPS KAKENHI Grant: “Research for the Development of Theories on Transboundary Fashion, and the Promotion of International Collaboration”
Co-organized by: Bunka Gakuen University, International Communication Centre
Date and time: 11th July, 2018, 18:00-19:30
Venue: Bunka Gakuen University, A051
Fashion designers used to be essentially non-verbal creators and their creations were then verbally translated by fashion journalists. Recent globalization makes fashion designers work with people who do not always share their cultural background, therefore rational explanation with theories has become a new skill for designers. At the same time, when fashion design entered the education curriculum in universities, fashion designers/teachers also had to learn to bridge non-verbal practice and theory.
The Transboundary Fashion Seminar 5.1 invites two fashion designers-educators. They will talk about what globalization and higher fashion education brought to them and their academic response to these two.
