We were honored to have professor Gareth Kershaw @pattern_cutting_for_menswear from RMIT who conducted a workshop on pattern and object research. His talk focused on functional garments and men’s technical archetypes. This week was yukata week at Bunka. Even though we had a few days of rain, our GFC students conquered the weather in their yukata outfits! Located in Hanyū City, Saitama Prefecture, Nakajima Konja @nakajimakonya is a historic indigo dyeing factory with nearly two centuries of tradition. Established in 1837, the factory has been run by successive generations of master dyers, preserving and passing down the intricate art of Japanese indigo dyeing. Its dresscode day at Bunka today! This year’s theme color is pink, and many of the students showed their solidarity through wearing pink outfits. Our GFC students had some great outfits too! Which one is your favorite? Last week the students visited Ginza Motoji store, where they were able to see and touch some kimono fabrics up close, and got to learn more about weaving and dyeing techniques. Last week, our newly arrived first year students participated in our yearly yukata wearing workshop. The students learned several obi ties, and we hope they’ll have many opportunities to wear yukata this summer! From December 9, 2024 to February 8,2025, our second year student Emi Fukuoka @emifukuoka is exhibiting her graduation work in the exhibition “Threads of hybridity,” in collaboration with the Japan Nyanduti association. Nicole Klotsas has posted her documentary “The Future of Lolita Fashion” as part of her research on the current state and future potential of Lolita community through interviews with four experts. From today until Thursday Alessia Martignago, is exhibiting her project @onedressforlife her graduate clothing collection inspired by Tatami.
